This year’s Halloween Garage may be the biggest one yet. It involves lumber, power tools, paint, duct tape and styrofoam.

My son suggested that I may have gone overboard. I told him, “of course this is overboard.”

Overboard is the extra effort that makes something truly extraordinary. It’s the Taj Mahal, the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, the Saturn V rocket, gonzo journalism and Quentin Tarantino films.

The Halloween Garage 2012 also may be cancelled if the Frankenstorm goes overboard and washes out Halloween. That will give me a full year to perfect this overboard event.

Assuming there is any electrical grid and functioning society in the Mid-Atlantic after the storm, I am doing NaNoWriMo for the first time. 50,000 words in one month.

Is that overboard?

So be it.

On the merits of going overboard
